Insurance Fact Sheet : Your Insurance Report PDF Print E-mail

What is my Insurance Report?

Similar to Credit Reports, Insurance Reports are generated from a large database that contains records of consumers and their insurance history. The database is maintained by a private company, Veda Advantage, to keep centralised records for the benefit of insurance companies. This information can affect your ability to obtain insurance or to claim on your insurance.

The centralised database may contain the following information:

1. Your name and address

2. Details of any insurance claims you have made in the past 10 years

3. Details of insurance enquiries

4. Loss assessor enquiries.

Insurance companies may access information in your Insurance Report anytime but particularly when:

1. You apply for insurance

2. You make an insurance claim.

3. You have a disputed claim

This means that if you did not disclose your previous insurance claims when you applied for insurance, insurance companies can find this out by accessing your report. It also means that if you win a disputed claim it is important to check your report afterwards to see what, if anything, has been recorded on your file.

If you want to check what your insurance report says about you, use the sample letter below:
